JASNA Southeastern Virginia
Welcome to the heart of Janeite activity in the Hampton Roads area! Whatever your interests, talents, or background, you will fit right in with our eclectic mix of Austen aficionados. We are all united by our love of Jane Austen's life and times, and of the classic literary characters she created.
We host a variety of speakers and events throughout the year, with something to interest everyone! Our monthly meetings, February to November, range from the scholarly to the silly. We host lectures by professional and amateur historians, talk about the latest movie adaptations, and even play our own polite homebrew version of Cards Against Humanity, “Cards Against Jane Austen”. In January of each year, we hold a Tea and Dance in honour of Jane Austen's birthday.
We are an official region of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA), and we are very excited to be hosting JASNA’s 2019 Annual General Meeting, on the theme of “200 Years of Northanger Abbey: ‘Real, Solemn History’”. One highlight of this event will be the anything-but-solemn musical version of Northanger Abbey, a preview of which we premiered to a packed house in Williamsburg in the summer of 2016. Read more about our AGM plans here.
Our “home base” is the Williamsburg Regional Library, 515 Scotland Street, where most of our monthly meetings take place. We frequently meet in other places in the Williamsburg area, however, and occasionally elsewhere in Hampton Roads. The most up-to-date information on meeting locations, times, and topics can be found here, or on our Facebook page.
